The countdown is on!

Whoa you're wedding date is fast approaching and all your vendors are reaching out to you for confirmations, final payments, checklists, schedules, and who knows what else! Not to mention the general excitement (and stress!) of one of the biggest events of your life right around the corner. It's enough to make your head spin! As a wedding photographer who has worked with many couple from "yes" to "I-do," I totally get it! While I can't help you answer every vendors questions, I can definitely help you with the photographer side of things. Let's start with the details box.

What even is a details box?

Your photographer has asked you to put together a details box for the day of. What even is a details box? A wedding details box is a literal box of all your major detail items from the day that you want photographed.

Why should I have a details box?

This is helpful because the photographer can arrive and start their detail photos right away without having to interrupt you while you are getting ready or have a member of the wedding crew hunt everything down AND all of your special details are all in one place so no hunting or searching for them on the day of your wedding!

What should I put in my details box?

What you put into your box is totally up to you! Not every couple will have these items and even if you have them you may not care about having them photographed anyway. Only put in your details box the items you really care about.

Common items that couple put in their box:

  1. Wedding rings (This includes the engagement ring if separate)
  2. The ring box (If you don't have a special one, talk to your photographer. They may have one they are willing to bring with!)
  3. Bouquets / boutonnieres
  4. Wedding shoes
  5. A copy of the invitation or save the date
  6. Other important jewelry from the day
  7. Cuff links
  8. Watches
  9. Ties / Bowties
  10. Perfumes/Colognes
  11. Veil / hairpieces
  12. Letters to one another
  13. Vow books
  14. Favorite engagement photo
  15. Custom hangers or other handmade details
  16. Traditional items (something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue)
